Email management

The MailProtect website is designed to give staff users access to the email filtering system. This is needed in case legitimate emails get trapped in the spam filter, email users will be able to view their own blocked emails and release those that are appropriate.

The LGfL site can be found at https://mailprotect.lgfl.org.uk

Schools and establishments that are not part of LGfL can access it at https://mailprotect.atomwide.com

Please note: this website cannot be accessed by users in schools operating their own mail servers (with the exception of administrators) or pupils at any school. However, system administrators can see logs relating to pupil emails and release messages for them as required.

Site permissions

Regular LGfL mail users

Every user can and should subscribe to a spam digest. This is an email notification that will be sent to the user each time messages are trapped in the spam filter.

To switch on the spam digests, the member of staff needs to log into the support site and go to My Account >> Email. From there they can select to "Opt in" to receiving these notifications. Detailed instructions can also be found in the USO support site manual.

Every LGfL email user has the ability to log in and view all emails that have been sent to and from all email addresses associated with them. This will include all aliases associated with the person and any shared mailboxes where they are specified as the "owner".

Email users can:

View logs for all addresses belonging to them

Release messages blocked as spam/bulk

Release messages blocked due to image scan

Release messages blocked due to rude word scan

Preview messages (but NOT attachments)

Manage their personal "allow" list

Manage their personal "reject" list

Users in schools with their own mail servers

If users in such schools wish to receive spam digests, they can only do so by sending an email to Atomwide.

To enable spam digests for an individual user, that user must email digests@atomwide.com and enter the following in the subject line of the email: Enable spam digests.

Digests will then be sent to the requesting individual and they can release blocked emails from these.

To disable spam digests if enabled, the user must email digests@atomwide.com and enter the following in the subject line of the email: Disable spam digests.

Regular users do not have the ability to log in to the MailProtect website.

Administrators

More functionality is available to users who have mail domain administration rights.

In LGfL this refers to Nominated Contacts who also have the Mail Domain Administrator permission.

In all other establishments this refers to Nominated Contacts or other users who have the MailProtect Administrator permission.

In LAs it refers to Super Users who also have any of the Domain Administrator permissions mentioned above. They will be able to act as a MailProtect administrator for all establishments maintained by the LA.

Administrators can log in and see a log of all emails sent to and from everyone in the establishment and release any legitimate messages that were trapped in the spam filter on behalf of other email users.
